What accessories do I need for paint correction?
At minimum: backing plate + pads, pad cleaning brush/pad washer, panel wipe (IPA), automotive masking tape, inspection light, and edgeless microfiber towels. These control heat, keep pads cutting, reveal defects, and ensure a residue-free finish.
What size backing plate and pads should I use?
Most DA polishers perform best with 5" backing plates and 5–5.5" pads—the sweet spot for contour control, pad rotation, and efficient correction.
How do I clean polishing pads during a correction?
After each 1–2 sections, brush or air-blast the pad to remove spent residue. For deeper cleaning, use a pad washer. After the job, wash with a dedicated pad cleaner, rinse well, and air dry—no fabric softener or high heat.
Do I need a panel wipe between compounding and polishing (or before coating)?
Yes. A panel wipe/IPA removes polishing oils and fillers so you can accurately inspect the finish and ensure ceramic coating adhesion.
