The Shop Quotes $500 and Up. This $34.95 Bottle Does the Part You Can Feel.

Most of a shop invoice is labor: the wash, the decontamination, the polishing, the two days in the bay. If your paint is already clean, the only part left is the protective layer. RESIST puts that layer on with a spray and two towels, and it posted the lowest sponge drag of eight coatings in Project Farm's chemical test.

You Already Know What the Shop Will Say

Bring it in. Leave it two days. Pay for the paint correction whether you need it or not, then pay again for the coating, then come back every few months for the maintenance wash that keeps the warranty alive. That is the right answer for a car with swirled, oxidized paint. It is the wrong answer for the car you already wash every other weekend.

Do the math the shop never puts on the invoice. Three professional coatings over six years at $800 to $1,000 each is about $3,000 before a single maintenance visit. What actually protects the paint at the end of all that is a thin layer of chemistry. The bay, the lift, the two days, the technician's hours: that is what the rest of the money buys.

Your paint is clean. What it is missing is the last layer. That layer is what a $34.95 bottle of RESIST puts on, one panel at a time, in well under an hour.

What Is Actually in the Bottle

RESIST is reduced graphene oxide carried in ceramic resins. You spray it on a cool, clean panel, spread it with one microfiber, and buff with a second. It bonds on contact. That is why there is no cure tent and no 48-hour wait, and why the streaks and haze that ruin most DIY kits do not show up: nothing sits on the surface waiting to be buffed in.

The part you can measure is slickness. In Project Farm's independent eight-coating test, after the chemical rounds, the RESIST panel needed 2.3 lb of pull to drag a sponge across it, the lowest of the eight. Gtechniq measured 2.5 lb. RESIST did not win the whole test; Gyeon did. What it posted was the slickest surface at the end, and slickness is the thing you feel when you wipe a hood and the towel keeps going.

Slickest after five harsh chemicals

Pounds of pull to drag a sponge across each panel. Shorter bar = slicker surface.

“Had a ceramic coating put on a recently purchased Cadillac V-Sport by a professional coating business. It was not very hydrophobic so I did my research and ordered your Resist ... Water now just beads off like glass”

“I love the ease of use and slickness I get from this product. It provides a tremendous amount of gloss and I’ve seen it last a full year on a daily driven vehicle.”

Read the reviews on the product page before you decide. Even the five-star ones flag two things. KD: “...once you wash your car the slickness goes away very quickly. Beading is still there but the slick is not.” And on a warm day, “just a little more elbow grease was needed to remove” it. The prep and buffing steps below are written for both.

What a Pro Quote Actually Pays For

A professional install is honest work: inspection, iron and tar decontamination, a polishing pass to remove swirls, a controlled application, and hours of cure time before the car can see water. If your paint needs correction, that is worth paying for, and no spray fixes swirls or chips. But correction is a separate job from protection, and most daily drivers that get washed regularly do not need it. Paying $500 and up for the whole package to get the last $35 of chemistry is where the money goes.

Four Steps, One Panel at a Time

  1. 1Wash and dry. Cool panels, out of direct sun. If the paint feels rough, clay it first; if it has swirls you want gone, polish first or book the shop.
  2. 2Spray a light mist. Two or three sprays per panel is plenty. More product does not mean more protection, it means more to wipe.
  3. 3Spread with one towel. Straight passes, one section at a time. The panel goes slick under the towel almost immediately.
  4. 4Buff with a second clean towel. Wipe off any excess before it dries. This is the only step people get wrong: leave excess on and it is stubborn to remove, so keep the second towel clean and finish each panel before moving on.

Checkpoints as you go: the panel should buff clear with no residue. At the first rinse, water stands up in tight beads and sheets off instead of clinging. Justin J. (March 2024): “2 weeks after initial application, I washed my truck and the water beading was amazing.”

Book the Shop Instead If

Your paint has swirls or oxidation you want gone. RESIST protects, it does not polish, and a coating over scratches locks the scratches in. Your finish is matte or satin, which needs its own product. Or you simply want someone else to do all of it and hand you the keys. Everyone else: wash the car, and you are about an hour away from a hood that beads.

Book the shop if

  • Your paint has swirls or oxidation you want gone (a coating over scratches locks them in)
  • Your finish is matte or satin
  • You want someone else to do all of it and hand you the keys

RESIST fits if

  • Your paint is clean and you wash the car regularly
  • You want protection, not paint correction
  • You have about an hour in the driveway

Questions Owners Ask Before Ordering

RESIST is rated for 12+ months from one coat when it goes on clean paint and the car is washed normally. One owner reports a full year on a daily driver; others notice the slickness fading before the beading does. Harsh climates, automatic washes with strong chemicals, and cars parked outside year-round shorten that, which is why the third bottle in the three-pack exists.
Most kits need a cure window. Product sits on the surface, the owner buffs too early or too late, and the result is haze and high spots that have to be polished off. RESIST bonds on contact, so the buff happens while it is still workable. The one way to get a streak is to leave excess on a panel and walk away. Keep the second towel clean and finish each panel.
Strip it first. Anything sitting on the paint is what the coating bonds to, and a coating bonded to wax leaves with the wax. A wash with a strip shampoo, or a quick iron remover and clay on rough paint, and you are ready.
Less than you expect. A RESIST owner, Feb 2021: “I used about 1-2 oz. on a Tacoma.” Richard, Sept 2026: “I did 2 SUV's and a small pickup. Had more than half of product left.” Use it on gloss paint, glass, wheels and hard plastics. Spot-test matte and satin finishes and unfamiliar materials on a hidden area first.
Unopened bottles can be returned within 30 days in original packaging, which is why the three-pack is a safe way to buy: coat the car with the first bottle and decide with the other two still sealed. Sale and clearance items are excluded.
